The flip-flopi Naam-Lolwe Festival event has brought a very big impact to the society, whereby people learnt how to make valuable things from the waste around them. There are many different types of plastics some that can be recycled while others can’t, the plastic materials can be helpful to create valuable things.
To make it simple you can use;
- A shredder to cut the plastics into small flakes, to make materials easier machine procession
- You can also melt the plastics to form something new, just like chocolate can be made in different forms.
‘Plastiki Rafiki’ made a small scale recycling machine to enable people to learn about recycling and explore the endless possibilities and create a business with plastic waste.
The Flip-flopi boat made from plastic waste, was built on a beach in Lamu, and is said to have taken 2 years to build out of 10 tonnes of plastic waste. The boat was built by a famous dhow-builder Ali Skanda and flip flop artists made the outer covering from old flip flops found in the sea.
The boat is made from pure plastics to raise awareness of plastic pollution and show people the hidden value of plastic waste.
It makes the society learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle variety of plastics to fight environment pollutions.
Let us all take care of our environment.
