Facebook is rolling out a new feature to help people get vaccinated against Covid-19.

They announced on Monday that they will use their platforms to assist people in getting information about Covid-19 vaccines, where and when they can be vaccinated. This happens after Facebook has been criticized for giving misinformation about Covid-19.

“Now that many countries are moving towards vaccinations for all adults, we’re working on tools to make it easier for everyone to get vaccinated,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted on social media platform on Monday.

The social media company said it’s launching a tool in the US to give people more information about where to get Covid-19 vaccines and adding a Covid-19 information area in its photo-sharing platform Instagram.

“First, we’re launching a tool that shows you when and where you can get vaccinated and gives you a link to make an appointment,” Zuckerberg wrote in a post.”

This will be in Covid information centres which will show people right in their news feed.

The company said it was labelling Facebook and Instagram posts that discuss the safety of COVID-19 vaccines with text saying the vaccine will go through a safety and effectiveness test before approval.

The vaccine locater tool is similar to a blood donation feature that Facebook launched to help people in different places to donate blood and notified when a nearby blood donation may be in need.

Hope this is rolled out global eventually, and into Kenya.
