5G Network Is Here: What does it Portend for Your Business?
On Friday, 26th March 2021, the telecommunications giant in Kenya, Safaricom, made history as the first internet services provider to launch the first fifth-generation (5G) services in East Africa. This was a milestone lauded by many in the country.
It was seen as a major breakthrough for many people who rely on internet services in their day to day activities. From first connectivity to the reliability, individuals are willing to spend a lot to get these services, especially during these changing times of telecommunication.
5G wireless technology is meant to deliver higher multi-Gbps peak data speeds, ultra-low latency, more reliability, massive network capacity, increased availability, and a more uniform user experience to more users. Higher performance and improved efficiency empower new user experiences and connect new industries.
“With 5G, we aim to empower our customers with super-fast internet at work, at home and when on the move, supplementing our growing network,” said Mr Ndegwa, Safaricom CEO, during the launch of the 5G network.
What does this empowerment mean to businesses? What will be the importance of using 5G services?
5G will enable instantaneous connectivity to billions of devices, the Internet of Things (IoT) and a truly connected world.
Better communication
Reliable internet connections are reliable and make communication between colleagues easier. In the earlier years, most people would look at internet services as an additional and unnecessary expense to the organization but that is changing.
Communications, transfer of documents and connectivity with clients are today done online. This has made most organizations pay for the fastest available internet services in order to avoid buffering during their communications.
Clear Teleconferencing
Webinars; that’s the new norm in today’s corporate world. With the coronavirus pandemic, many have resorted to the use of Zoom, Google Meet, GoTo Webinar among other available apps that allow for teleconferencing and webinars in order to avoid or minimize the physical meetings that were used before. This is where fast internet connectivity comes in handy.
For those who are hosting webinars it will be easier to communicate with the rest of the people whereas, for the ones attending these webinars, it becomes easier to concentrate on the meetings.
Ability to work from anywhere
Employees share emails, printers and a lot where there is internet connectivity. An employee doesn’t have to be at a specific place like the office to accomplish his/ her duties. He can work from home or any other remote location as long as there is an internet service.
