Over 200 youth from Kisumu County have today gotten a chance to take a part in a Safaricom Golf Outreach programme dubbed ‘Golf Mtaani’ held at Lolwe Grounds.

The outreach gave the youth and the juniors an opportunity to learn and experience the sport.

“I like this golf outreach programme by Safaricom which has given me and others here today the first experience in golf. I have learnt some basics about the sport and it is quite interesting that the sport is not as difficult as I have always perceived. I commend Safaricom for this initiative as I believe it will help many to gain interest in the sport.” Said Zion Anyango

The outreach is part of the Safaricom Golf tour which aims to nurture and grow talents among the youth in the country. It is also part of the tour’s objective to make the sport accessible to the public by taking golf at their doorsteps.

The event happened alongside the corporate tournament held at Nyanza Golf Club which attracted 140 senior golfers from Kisumu and its environment including Western region clubs.

“I am happy to see a huge turnout in today’s golf outreach programme. In both Nanyuki and Limuru where we’ve had similar programmes, the turnout was equally great. For those who get a chance to attend the outreach, we teach them some basic skills about golf and I am happy a good number have shown the ability to play good golf.” Said Peter Ndegwa, CEO Safaricom

Safaricom Golf Tour continues to traverse through the country, tapping and nurturing talents in the sport.  So far, the Tour has visited three regions namely Nanyuki, Limuru and Nairobi (Muthaiga) attracting over 650 senior and junior golfers in all three tournaments.

To make it successful, Safaricom has invested KES 100 million in the golf tour, which aims at nurturing and growing talent in the country.
