Wezesha Innovation Foundation has been running the Next Code program that saw young girls fresh from college learn software engineering and create various apps, to help them solve the challenges they have been facing or those that members of their community are dealing with.

The program which has been running for the last 3 months eventually came to an end last week.

Some of the apps that are being developed by the young girls are:

  1. Learn with me – targeting Class 8/Grade 6 and KCSE candidates with e-learning and revision materials
  2. Dustbins Locator for recycling of wastes, how to keep the environment clean
  3. Dr Uber – hail a doctor to help you get emergency doctor services before you get to the hospital. Speciality and their contacts
  4. Quick Alert – emergency response on various aspects, car breakdowns, safety, help, share your location, take action
  5. Poultry Farming App – for farmers who are seeking medication and getting help…

Next Code is eliminating employment barriers for talented, but under-served young women from low-income communities.

Through digital-focused-job training, life coaching and remote work matching, the program seek to create pathways for economic and social empowerment for young women and bridge the growing gender gap in technology.

The program is providing coding, digital design and 3D printing education to young women and connects them with digital opportunities.
