Kakamega County is set to host the groundbreaking International Business Conference scheduled from March 19th to 22nd this year. Governor Fernandes Barasa revealed that the theme of the conference is ‘Opening up Counties as the New Frontiers for Investment and Development among the 14 Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) Counties.

During the Kakamega Business Awards and Gala Dinner, Governor Barasa emphasized that the conference anticipates drawing over 3,000 participants from across the globe. He underscored the significance of the event as a major opportunity for the LREB counties to collaborate and showcase the region’s potential as a prime business destination.

Governor Barasa highlighted the unique position of counties at the base of the economic pyramid, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive investment conference. He noted:

“Counties are at the bottom of the pyramid, so there is a lot of investment happening at the counties, but we have never had a proper investment conference that will attract and showcase to the general public the opportunities that are available.”

The International Conference is slated to culminate in the establishment of the Kakamega Investment Hub for the Western region. The hub will serve as a platform to showcase investment opportunities, facilitated by the Kakamega County Investment Development Agency (KCIDA).

Ken Onditi, the National Director of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed the Chamber’s commitment to promoting the conference. During the Gala Awards, he announced plans to reach out to over 177 Chamber members globally, encouraging increased participation. Onditi emphasized the Chamber’s efforts to lobby countries with established joint business councils, such as Turkey, to attend and exhibit at the Kakamega International Business Conference.
