Rest in Peace H.E. Dr. John Pombe Joseph Magufuli
Tanzania president Dr John Pombe Magufuli has passed on, the vice president Samia Suluhu announced yesterday night.
The late President has been said to have succumbed to heart disease which he was taken to hospital as from 6th March 2021.
Dr. John Magufuli served as the fifth president of Tanzania from 2015 to 2021.
The late president is being celebrated by many people around the world for being a democratic leader, he wanted to see an end to corruption and wastage of public resources.
Many leaders have sent their condolences to the family and citizens of Tanzania, including President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“On behalf of the Kenyan government, I send my condolences to Janet Magufuli” Said President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The ODM party leader Raila Odinga has posted on Twitter account thus:
“It’s with deep sadness that I have learned of the passing of my friend President Magufuli, He and his wife have been close friends for a long time, he has been by my side at my most difficult and painful moments, my condolences to his family and the people of Tanzania,” he wrote.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has said the Republic of Kenya will have to observe 7 days of mourning in solidarity with the people of Tanzania.
The vice president Samia Suluhu by virtue of the Tanzanian constitution has become the acting president.
Late President Magufuli won re-election in October 2020 and was to serve for 5 years, Dr. Samia Suluhu will rule till 2025 when the next election happens, she thus becomes the first female president in Tanzania and East Africa.
