It was an exciting moment yesterday as the Pride of Africa’s maiden flight, KQ number 361 from Mombasa touched down at exactly five minutes past noon at the Kisumu International Airport.

The Kenya Airways plane will be flying twice every week from Mombasa to Kisumu, on Thursdays and Sundays at a cost of Ksh. 8,900 one way.

The pre-inaugural flight will increase the number of direct flights from Kisumu to Mombasa, boosting tourism and investment opportunities within the 14 Counties forming Lake Region Economic Bloc a head of the Easter season from 25th March to 11th April.

Speaking while receiving the guests on board who included the Brand Ambassador, Madam Esther Akoth Kokeyo aka Madam Boss, Kisumu County CEC in charge of Tourism, Sports and Culture, Ms Achie Alai commended KQ for their quick response to the needs of the consumers who have always yearned to travel directly from the Lake side to the Sea side for both holidays and business.

She also noted the concerted efforts by Governor Nyong’o to have the direct flight from Kisumu to Mombasa calling on Kisumu residents to empower the airline by exploiting the available business opportunities.

On her part, Madam Boss said she is proud to be associated with the initiative which is a dream come true.

“Linking the two cities has been a challenge especially when balancing family visits and work, this has been made easier by KQ. It also slows down the spread of Covid – 19 since it only takes one hour five minutes from Mombasa to Kisumu” said the Brand Ambassador.

She reiterated that the flight will be on trial schedule between 25th March to 11th April prior to the official inauguration.

Akothee called on residents within the LREB to do all it takes to utilize the opportunity to change their situation and horizon by coming up with innovative ideas from the daily challenges they encounter.
