Mama Sarah Obama grandmother to former ex president of the United States Barack Obama has died while undergoing treatment at Jaramogi Oginda Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (Russia) in Kisumu, her family confirms.
Mama Sarah Obama was a Kenyan Educator and a philanthropist, she was the third wife of the paternal grandfather of Barack Obama, who loved her family and continued Obama lineage after her husband’s death.
Sarah has died at the age of 99 years and being a strong believer of the Muslim faith she is expected to be buried today as per religious customs.
Many people have sent their condolences and passed praises to Mama Sarah Obama, including the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who has stated Mama Sarah as a matriarch in the society.
“In the passing of Mama Sarah Obama, we have lost a matriarch who lived ahead of her time. She single-handedly kept the family going long after the husband departed” Raila Odinga posted in his twitter account.
In between, Sarah Obama became a symbol of the Resilience and Confidence of the African woman with a unique capacity to face the challenges of life. She utilized her grandson President Barack Obama rise to promote the education of girls and fight social ills through her Foundation.
