Ministry of Health Forms the Oxygen Taskforce
The ministry of health earlier today announced the formation of a special taskforce named ” The Oxygen Taskforce” to draw a master plan that will be used to curb the shortage of medical oxygen in hospitals across the country.
This comes after numerous cases have been reported of COVID-19 patients dying due to lack of ventilators and oxygen.
The ministry, through their twitter page, said, “Oxygen is an essential commodity in our drug list. Although we have oxygen plants across the country, the oxygen is not sufficient.”
They further reiterated on the acknowledgement of the rising demand for medical oxygen that has been brought about by the covid-19 pandemic.
The ministry noted that they are currently working with partners such as World Bank, the French Government and suppliers to address the situation.
“All suppliers are working hard to address the shortage and ensure that oxygen is available.”
The Taskforce has been mandated with the duty to come up with a plan as well as assess the infrastructure and economies of scale per hospital to address the issue.
In the meantime, the ministry has said that the formed Taskforce has identified issues of service, maintenance and operations and pipping of oxygen as a major requirement towards meeting the high demand.
However, most Kenyans have not taken this news lightly since many have questioned the need for another taskforce yet the benefits of other taskforces formed earlier have never been seen.
