Urbanville Basketball club has been in existence for close to 11 years now. The Kisumu Based outfit has produced some renowned players who have scaled the heights to the topmost level locally.

Urbanville basketball alumni; John Wijas and Trevor Gari emerged winners of the 2023 National Men’s league with KPA while Dennis Koja (Strathmore) and Paul Raburu (Africa Nazarene) have been called up to the Kenyan Mens’ National team.

John Martin (Dagoretti) and Eugene Jesse (Dagoretti) have also been called up to the Under 19 National team selections as John Wijas, Dennis Koja (Strathmore) and Maggie Nerea (Strathmore) will be feature in the National 3×3 teams.

Kjellan Otieno and Ricky Okeyo are urbanville alumni who are on Basketball Scholarships in the US. Ricky recently graduated.

This year however presents a different challenge to the team as a whole as they look to challenge for Division Two honors against nine other teams from across the Country. The league begins later in 2023 and their longest trip will be to Mombasa. The league is expected to last Eight months.

Urbanville will also be participating in the Lukos energy League which is a western Kenya regional league. They will be looking to use the Lukos league as a platform to give their developmental sides a chance to hone their skills against seasoned teams like Maseno Dukes amongst others.

Running Basketball School programs in the Lake region pre-occupies the team management’s weekly schedule. This year presents Founder Oliver Nyawanda and his team a great opportunity to make another great stride towards achieving the dream of plying their trade in Kenya’s elite league.
