Kisumu City was the host of the Madaraka Day 2021 national celebrations. Madaraka Day commemorates the day in 1963 that Kenya attained internal self-rule after being a British colony since 1920.

Madaraka is a Swahili word for “authority, ruling power”.

Kisumu did not disappoint in the delivery of the event, starting from the venue – Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium (built-up in under 12 months).

The entertainers from the lakeside city, paratroopers, the Burundi Drum-Beaters, the State House Choir, among other entertainers; it was a sight to behold.

These below are some of the photos from the biggest event ever hosted in Kisumu.
