KAA Regional Airport Manager in charge of Kisumu International Airport & airstrip facilities in the Western Region, Ms Selina Gor received the 2022-2024 CAT 7 Aerodrome Certification for Kisumu Airport from @CAA_Kenya DG Mr Emile Nguza Arao last week.

This follows a re-certification which is valid for 2 years and comes as Kisumu International Airport is preparing to receive heads of state & more than 8,000 delegates jetting in for the 9th Edition of the #Africities Summit being held in Kisumu this week.

The CAT 7 Aerodrome Certification will give impetus to the international landing of wide-body jets at the lakeside city.

KAA is currently extending the existing passenger terminal building at Kisumu International Airport to provide an additional boarding gate area, arrivals hall & a landside vehicular grade parking so as to increase the facility’s passenger handling capacity in readiness for Africities.

7 African Countries Presidents and Heads of State including Macky Sall, Senegalese president and AU president, Mohamadou Issoufu, former president of Niger, former US Secretary of state John Kerry, UN dep Secretary-General Moussa Faki Mahamat, AU commission chairperson Ms Maimuna Mohd Sharif, Executive director UN-Habitat Ms Vera Songwe; Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, Prof Benedict Oramah, chairman of Afreximbank and UN deputy secretary-general Amina J. Mohammed are expected at the 2022 Africities Summit Kisumu edition.

More than 8000 participants are expected in Kisumu

The city of Kisumu is the very first intermediary city to host the Africities Summit.

In all, more than 5,000 delegates, including mayors and presidents of cities and local authorities, ministers, local elected officials, and representatives of central and regional administrations, are expected in Kenya’s third-largest city.

Reinforced by the success of previous editions and in particular that of Marrakech in 2018, this 9th triennial and itinerant meeting on the five regions of Africa will welcome nearly a hundred exhibitors and 8,000 visitors.

UCLG Africa counts among its members 51 national associations of local governments from all regions of Africa, as well as 2,000 cities and territories with more than 100,000 inhabitants. As such, the organization represents nearly 350 million African citizens.

The meeting will be held in a hybrid format, both physical and digital, and “it will provide concrete solutions to support the implementation of territorial projects across Africa, which offers a considerable market amounting to tens of billions of dollars. “says Jean-Pierre Elong Mbassi, Secretary-General of UCLG-Africa and President of the show.
