Easter Treat: Kisumu All-Star Basketball Fest 2023
Kisumu city will be treated to a day of all-star basketball, good music, barbecue, and fun on Saturday 8th of April 2023, from 9 am to 10 pm at the home of Kisumu’s basketball, the iconic Kisumu sports grounds courts.
The KCBL (Kisumu Classic Basketball League) organized event culminates the 2022/2023 KCBL leagues, people of all genders. It will also act as an award-giving ceremony to the winning teams of the just-ended season.
The highlight of the day, the men’s All-Star game, features players from various groups in the KCBL who shall be picked based on fans’ votes on the league’s social media platforms. There will be skills challenge contests, slam dunk and 3-point shooting competitions, celebrity games, and a ladies’ All-Star game.
Last year’s game was held at the Manyata Arabs School courts, and it was quite the event, with riveting skills displays, fun-filled games, and a great fan atmosphere.
KCBL’s head, Oliver Nyawanda, promises a bigger and better show this year, with the availability of the very central, more spacious sports ground, which has floodlights. “We want this year’s event to be a wholesome fan experience that encompasses all that a good fun event should have, not just basketball. There will be barbecues, music, halftime shows, MCs, and DJs. We shall have bleachers with shades for fans to sit courtside and take it all in”, says Oliver.
The KBF-sanctioned showpiece is currently looking for sponsors willing to come on board to connect with the basketball crowd in and around Kisumu and on KCBL’s social media platforms. A kit sponsorship deal with Crunch Time Sports (who also sponsored the last edition) is already clinched. Both All-Star teams will be kitted in new threads and kits for the match officials and event organizers.
The Fest’s theme is “Sports Building Healthy Communities .”It emphasizes the role sports play in the physical and mental health of the populace.
Talent development is also a good platform for teams to scout prospective players. Last year, the national basketball team coach Cliff Owuor among others, was in attendance. Kisumu is a hub of basketball talent, and the All-Star displays the best raw, untapped talent.
