Kisumu City Gears Up for FESTAC Africa Festival: A Celebration of Africa’s Vibrant Culture

Kisumu City, nestled on the shores of Lake Victoria, is gearing up to host the prestigious FESTAC Africa Festival from May 20th to 26th, 2024.
This event, aptly dubbed Africa’s BIGGEST Festival, promises a vibrant celebration of the continent’s diverse cultural tapestry.
Kisumu is no stranger to hosting major international events. The city welcomed over 13,000 international guests for the 9th Africities Summit two years ago. Now, it prepares to be the epicenter of a week-long extravaganza showcasing the very essence of Africa – its culture, fashion, music, dance, travel, tourism, trade, investments, arts and crafts, poetry, sports, food, and much more.

This isn’t the first iteration of FESTAC. In 1977, the world witnessed the historic Festac ’77, held in Lagos, Nigeria, serving as a pivotal moment in celebrating the rich heritage of Black and African peoples. The 4th edition of the festival took place in Arusha, Tanzania, in May 2023, and now, the baton passes to Kisumu City to keep the spirit of FESTAC alive.
Kisumu, with its robust youth and sports culture, coupled with a vibrant arts, intellectual, and cultural scene, is the perfect platform for this diverse celebration.
